Travelling With Family Is Always The Best!!

What is so big deal about travelling, if you aren't with your family. Travel is fun and pleasing when you are with the people you live and share your home. They know every little information about you and yet love you more than ever. They appreciate you, share your taste and try to keep you happy always.

This March, it was a wonderful travel time. My In-laws accompanied us on our Europe travel. I had the best moments with them and the travel got us more and more closer.

It was a month long stay and we were to depend on the internet for our entertainment. That is when we got more closer. Even the most horrible television soaps were viewed by us as we didn't have a choice and yet, we laughed it all day out.

We planned our breakfast, lunch and dinner. We washed vessels and cleaned house together.  This time was totally ours and no phone calls could reach us.

European countries are truly different as they appreciate your personal space and help you discover every part in your own way.

Although we (my family) live in Bengaluru, we hardly got time to talk to each other. It felt like as though we were never in our home. I hardly remember a day where we have talked and relished food together. But here, we made it up everyday.

What best can be the way to get closer to In-laws than ask them about fond memories of their life? that's what I did and it was a wonderful pass time.

Those funny instances, silly fights, tough times and happy moments help us learn, feel lighter and get tough to face life.

They too were equally happy and excited to talk about their walks of life. Definitely, these times are locked in the chambers of heart.

Travel has the power to get anybody closer. All that one needs is proper planning and an attempt to open self.

What Does Travel Mean To You?

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes" said Marcel Proust.
The course of life teaches us many things. Doesn't it? And I suppose travel plays a big part in our education. Experiencing new things and seeing new places are veritable ways of knowledge and evolution for many. One gets to see oneself and others in different but honest ways when situated in different ambient conditions.
And this input perhaps helps us, in many levels, to grow. But should we not travel for travel's sake?Should we travel to find our happiness? Should we travel to 'find' ourselves?

There's a surprising number of ways to answer these questions. A businessman might say '' Hey! Look, I've been all over the world. China, Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, India, Africa..you name it and I've been there on work and leisure. But I find everything I want in my hometown. I don't see the point of taking the trouble to lug oneself half way across the globe to find happiness when a cuppa with friends & family at home would do it."

A friend of mine asked me "Anu, what is the point of travelling?? Isn't visiting the objective? Air travel, bus travel, sea travel are all a pain. Travelling is the worst part of a vacation! What comfort does anybody find inside a claustrophobic air plane, car or van? "

Another time, a retired couple told me that they're spending all their savings on travel and visiting NGOs in other places. They said it gave them immense happiness and fulfilment in doing a meaningful deed for others. That travel helps them find happiness in others and also in themselves.

So here was a couple investing all their resources and faculties into something that another found very pointless. For someone, travel is perhaps, a lifestyle statement. For another, it may be a means to make ends meet. So the take away was that, travel, as with most things in life is understood in the context of one's background and experience. Spiritualists, journalists, businessmen, home-makers may all have different understandings of the same thing.

So having said that, my questions to you are:
  • What does travel mean to you?
  • Should we travel to find our happiness?
  • What two places would you recommend to see?
Eagerly awaiting for answers, as it would help me and perhaps other seekers  understand travel and life as such through your experiences. As for me in the present time, travel is a way to escape from routine. It is an exercise to help me broaden my perspectives and a way to increase my level of patience and tolerance. I travel to find happiness. Being stagnant leads to oversight. I've started to appreciate home and its comforts only through travel. Somebody once said "There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way". I find happiness in the journey and in the destination. Two places that I'd recommend are, the Pacific Coast through California and also the Valleys of Kashmir in India.

Let me thank you in advance for participating.
Happy travelling!

Favourite Destinations Of Indian Film Legends

For many, legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajnikanth are prominent role models than the present super stars as they have been reigning the industry from decades and have remained a nostalgia to the young as well as the older generation.

Their movies are ever favourite and dialogues, needless to say. Whenever they make a new comeback on big screen, there is a wave and people just love them for more than what they are.

If you ask the older lot, they say that these actors are (in real) good human beings too, humble and are known for making decent movies. Their movies hardly have double meaning dialogues and most of the time based on "good winning over bad" concepts.

These stars made family oriented films and rose to greater heights. They are also known for the clean image and spiritual interests. If Amitabh is called the Bhisma of Indian Cinema then Rajnikanth is, undoubtedly, the Thalaivar.

Today, I shall let you know the favourite holiday destinations of these film veterans with some more in the list. Take a look.

1. Amitabh Bachchan - Although we are aware of Amitabh's personal liking for Bengaluru (the city that gave him a re-birth), he is many times quoted as saying that he likes London and San Francisco.
The legendary actor, apparently, prefers the Presidential Suite at St. James Court as it offers a private gym and lift facilities to the parking area. He is also said to have a liking for Goa.

2. Rajnikanth - Many of his fans would rightly guess that their star prefers a spiritual trip to the Himalayas. He is many a times in news for the same reason. The actor prefers the holy journey to be very low profile by dressing up in a mere Kurta Pyjama and an unshaven look.
Not many know that Thalaivar also visits Bengaluru often as it reminds him of the good old days before his star career.

3. Rajkumar - The late Kannada legendary actor, always called as 'Annavru' (big brother) by fans, preferred his hometown Gajanur for holidays. The actor, always quoted for simplicity, liked to spend a good time with family and friends than travelling elsewhere.
He was, in fact, kidnapped by bandit Veerappan from his Gajanur's cottage and was later released unharmed after 100 days.

4. Chiranjeevi - The megastar of Tollywood is said to be a homely man and spends quality time with family. According to fans, the Tourism Minister of AP is also said to have a liking for Munnar (in India) and London (abroad).

5. Mohanlal - The Malayalam legend is also popular in the Hindi industry. He lives with his family in Kochi, Kerala and is a passionate traveller.
Not many know that the Malayalam veteran likes Dubai and even owns an apartment in Burj Khalifa (one of the most expensive in world). He also likes Ooty in India and has built a house to spend his holidays.

Travel Horoscope: Know Which Place Suits You Best!!

Sometimes places relate to your character and personality and when that happens you would love to visit the place again and again. I have personally seen my own friends liking a destination and relating all their moments with the backdrop of that place. It is strange but true.

The romantic ones always decide situation to be in the form of Yash Chopra's screenplay and the adventurous want a Ladakhi 'Lake Wedding'. Today, I shall reveal which place suit to your horoscope the most so that you can add the place in your list of discoveries or highlight it in your personal diary. Take a look.

Travel Horoscope: A New Scope To Plan Your Future Travel

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
The members of the first house of the zodiac sign are courageous, witty, emotional, energetic and adventurous. They expect something more in every relationship and are often hurt for the same reason. As their ruling planet is Mars, their lucky colours would be Red and White. For them, our Travel Horoscope reader suggests New York. New York has all elements of their character. May be the place has something more to tell them about them.

Taurus (April 20th - May 21st)
Sometimes they tend to judge people on the basis of they have. They are materialistic, practical, reliable, adamant and affectionate. Venus is their ruling planet and Green is their colour. We suggest Taurians a beach place like South Africa as it defines them in every simple way. From precious Diamonds to calm beaches, the place has everything.

Gemini (May 22nd - June 21st)
Fickle minded, practical, transparent, changeable, warm, passionate and provocative, that's what we commonly see in Geminis. They have a child in them that longs for unconditional love and can be happy with simple things. They value relationships and if once committed, they are with you for life. Brown and White are their colour and Mercury, their ruler. Our expert has two destinations for them (1) Paris and (2) Hong Kong.

Cancer (June 22nd - July 21st)
For Cancerians, it was a tough task to decide as they love their home than anything in world. They love to enjoy a grand meal with family members than travel alone. They are clingy, emotional, warm, patriotic, possessive, nuturing and quick wit. We love to suggest a spiritual as well as scenic place like Sikkim as it has lots for them. Moon is their ruler and White or Beige colour suits them most.

Leo (July 22nd - August 23rd)
I will do what I want to do is their usual mantra. They are stubborn, emotional, have good memory, genius, diciplined, caring and simple. They prefer a travel with minimal expenditure. We suggest them Munich as it has many things they would like and connect with. Yellow is the colour and Sun, their god. Visit Munich in September and October to understand yourself even better.

Virgo (August 24th - September 22nd)
They are too conscious about cleanliness and health. For them, travel is beyond spending a good time and always see life from a different perspective. They wish to be different and like being called as different. Our travel horoscope suggests them a unique destination that has romance and adventure and that is New Zealand. Auckland suits the best. Blue and Lilac are their Zodiac colours as their knight is Mercury.

Libra (September 23rd - October 23rd)
Be prepared for the worst, that's a Libran mantra. They prepare and strengthen companions to balance and judge every travel rightly. For the Blender, we have a beautiful destination. Barcelona is the perfect Libran destination and has a right balance of the old and new. Venus rules Libra and grey/tan is the colour.

Scorpio (October 24th - November 22nd)
Patient, party kinds, polished and smart, that's the general characteristics of Scorpions. They know where to pull one's leg and lead life tactically. They admire fashion and brand conscious people. For them, Las Vegas is well suited destination as it is the luxurious of luxury in World. They will also like Dubai as it also a 'larger than life' destination. Pluto, their ruling planet and Topaz/ Ceramic is their colour.

Sagittarius (November 23rd - December 22nd)
They are philosophical, strong, protective, passionate, ideal and matured. They can get along with most and are always a secret book to define. You may feel you know them for now but may again be taken aback in the next moment, yes, that's a Sagittarian, a half human and a half herbivore. For them, we suggest Sydney as it always amazes travellers with the versatility.

Capricorn (Dec 23rd - Jan 21st)
Ambitious, passionate, romantic, harsh, ruthless, aspiring, convincing, conservative and dutiful. Capricorns are normally travel lovers and are ready to go anywhere. They are not very particular as their idea of travel is itself to discover something new. We suggest them the twin Italian cities, Rome and Venice. Rome has so much to give for a hungry wanderer. Red or Lilac are the colours as Saturn is their ruler.

Aquarius (Jan 22nd - Feb 19th)
Romantic, fearless, unpredictable, intellectual, independent, loyal and truthful. They are always willing to travel if they are with the people they like. Some Aquarians love driving so we suggest Leh Ladakh, Nikko and Interlaken roads. They would also enjoy Salzburg and Linz (Austria) as it is calm and scenic. Blue is their colour and Uranus, their king.

Pisces (Feb 20th - March 20th)
Highly dominating, flirty, greedy, escapist, mysterious and humorous, these are a piscian behaviour. They love travelling but most of the time, they prefer being alone. London and Bangkok are the places that suit them completely. Neptune is their planet and Mauve/ Sea Green is their shade.

From now on, it wouldn't be difficult for you to say your favourite place to people as it is simply your type.
With this, may be the love of your life might get to know you better even before you meet or date her. Isn't that a cool option for the present speedy living.

Is There A Need For World Travel Agent Organisation?

Ofcourse, there is a need for all travel agents worldwide to come together for a better travel service and preservation of tourist attractions. Today, I, Anjana Harsha, would like to give my piece of advice to all the travel services across the globe to have a thought of what they are doing is not, on the first place, a service.

Why Should Travel Agents Think About Preserving Tourist Spots?
Because they are the ones who make money and that is why taking a better care of the architectural, ancient and natural spots become their responsibility.

Why Do Agents Take Up This Task When There Are Many Other Government And Private Organisations For The Same?
Because they know travel better, they understand people better and are also aware of what is lacking in a specified tourist spot.

Will It Not Be A Loss To Agents As They Have To Invest Profits On Such Big Tasks?
No it won't as they will also reap greater benefits with the increase in number of travellers and satisfactory amenities.

What Should Ideally Be The Purpose Of World Travel Agent Organisation (WTAO)?
  • The travel agencies all over the world should come to one roof and decide the percentage of share they would allot in preserving natural resources, cleanliness and traveller's safety.
  • For developed, it isn't a problem but for the developing it is definitely helpful as their ancient and cultural monuments are sinking in the cage of corruption.
  • Even a dollar from every agent can make a big difference in pathetic and unclean tourist spots. Facilities like payed toilets, baby care, clean water, a good restaurant and hotel can really help travellers to come and visit again.
  • For agents, development is a universal factor as they provide tickets and other facilities to all countries and popular spots. There wouldn't be a biased or partial nature in them as it is just an idea of better business.
  • Just because some ancient attractions aren't in powerful nations, would they be ruined and erased from the books of civilisation. How correct is it to just let go of the path that has led to the super powerful nations of today?
  • When travellers are ready to take risk to come and visit such spots, why can't the agents make a small initiative for a better tourism.
It is also necessary to see that the share is utilised rightly and not going to the mouth of the so-called travel department ministers and officials.

For travel agencies, time, is now, to open eyes and think beyond just making money. Remembering that with these attractions is where they are earning their bread would help them to do this part of service to mankind.

Do you think different?..say it all through comments.

What Is Your Travel Philosophy?

We all have a certain way of looking at things in life. Does travel change all that? The word ‘philosophy’ has many definitions in the dictionary. Many people may offer more definitions to it. Your travel philosophy may include your beliefs about travel, the process of moving out to see a new place and perhaps some expectation management. There is a lot to choose from and it may depend on one’s objective of travel, traveling style and such. Now, having said that, having one’s own philosophy of travel is not a necessity, it is something one has, innately and it may surface on one of your sojourns.

So what am I trying to put across here? That having our own philosophy which works for us on many levels helps us respond to many questions including the all important one “what do we really want?” and to sound a little unselfish “what can we offer?” or “am I a tourist or a traveler?” or “are tourists and travelers different?” and the list can go on. So what about people who have no questions at all to be answered?? Also good I think, to simply travel for travel’s sake. In a weird sort of way, that too is some kind of a travel philosophy.

So there are lots of ways to travel and perhaps more reasons to go with it. None of my friends travel the same way I do. I like a bit of comfort in my trips. I like a good bed, a decent loo and comfortable (maybe not fashionable) clothes and shoes. But I know people who lug about more than necessary baggage & have a great time and I also know people who travel with less than bare minimum comforts and have an equally good time. I’d like to spend time with a local family and have lunch and dinner with them, pray or go shopping with them in an effort to learn and understand the local culture. Someone else may want to visit all the historical sites with the same purpose in mind. And that is the best thing about travel. There is no ‘one’ way to do it. And there is no right or wrong way to do it. As long as you are not crossing the line & treading into somebody else’s ‘happy place’ or sensitivities, any way is the right way.

But then, this is just one person’s musings. All these questions & answers affect what one would enjoy in travel. I, for one have a lot more to discover and am looking forward to it.

Happy travels!

Why Come To Travelendura More Often?

Is your travel all about booking tickets and going to the place, well, what's the fun factor in it? Planning, budget, physical and mental preparation are some important things that every individual needs.

Just like a popular saying goes, you need not become a fool by doing the same mistake that the other fools did, so do not travel just because your friends do but feel it and you will gradually start realising the cost of simple happiness.
The very reason why this blog takes away India from the world and creates a separate category is because Indian travel makes every traveller wonder what's with the piece of land. Some attain peace despite the uncomfortable journey, some begin to laugh at selves and start to thank god for making their lives so luxurious, some learn to value relationships, some learn to get rid of all the unwanted bondings of life and much more.

While we don't mean that these things do not come to mind while touring other places but it is here the chances are great. Maturity with age, giving a tough struggle, competition and 'survival of fittest' in profession is more in India.

The old call it "Punya And Karma Bhoomi" meaning "Eternal And Cursed Piece Of Earth". One should travel to India before travelling and enjoying other luxuries of life.

Our other categories like Travel BHP talks about modes of transport, Travel Fashion (exclusive tips on fashion while touring, Food And Restaurants, Gyaan (true meaning) etc. Photography is also a popular category of travelendura.com as it showcases our best clicks during our voyage. All in all, it is a good time pass and an interactive attempt for our viewers.

Safety Tips For Lone Lady Traveller

Woman of today is independent; self sufficient and confident in all aspects of life compared to her older generation. This extends to any field! Be it politics, industries, media, social services, education or even traveling for that matter. Talking of traveling, traditional ways of group travel are not so popular these days… thanks to the hectic and busy lifestyle of people or simply may be due to the concept of more-the-merrier just diminishing.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are a lonely lady traveller:
 1. Travel light: Pack things which are required. Carrying unwanted stuff will only be a burden throughout the trip. Also carrying the right kind of bags like backpacks would be more convenient to carry around than the bulky suitcase or airbags.
 2. Research: Do a quick internet search about the place you are heading to or talk to people who have been there before. More you know the better it is. The weather conditions and other details can help you pack the right things.
 3. Carry maps and important phone numbers: No matter how fancy and updated your electronic gadgets are, the good old way of carrying those small little maps and writing down the important phone numbers can never go wrong.
 4. Know the culture: Knowing the culture and tradition of a place, esp. if traveling abroad, can be very useful. In countries like India, Thailand, etc there is a dress code to be followed when one visits certain places like temples, pagodas and some historical places. Also a few countries are a bit more conservative when it comes to dressing. So you wouldn't want to dress inappropriately to such places and get all the unwanted attention.
 5. Be friendly but be alert: Making new friends in the trip is surely quite exciting. Being secure is the most important aspect during travel and this is possible only when you are alert about whom you are making friends with.
6. Carry first aid and medical kit: Carrying medical and first aid kit can come handy during travel esp. when traveling to remote destinations of a country or even when heading for adventure sports like trekking, mountain climbing, etc.
7. Planning:  Planning to drive? Try to make a route map and assign time targets for achieving distances. It’s very easy to get distracted to some new destination on route and spend more time searching for the new place. Most important point to remember though is to know where your pit stops should be... where are the petrol stations, where can we pitch up a tent for the night, what are the accommodation options available etc?
8. Carry a camera: Carry a camera which is handy… the aim and shoot cameras are very useful to capture all those quick memorable moments. You would not want to miss any of it, would you?
9. Books & Music: Books and Music make a great companion while traveling. Do not forget to carry your favorite read and music you love listening to.
Here you go!!!!! All you ladies out there time to pack your bags and head right out to a place that interests you and explore it all by yourself.

Top Bollywood Movies That Promoted Tourism In A Big Way!

Some Hindi movies are known for the locales they are shot rather than the star cast, story and songs. Today, I would like to remind you of those movies which can be played in your four wheelers while driving to these places. These movies are beautifully made with the perfect location for a perfect scene. Here is how to find out.

10 Bollywood Movies That Are Based On Travel

1. 3 Idiots - Who can forget the lake scene in the movie when Kareena meets Aamir driving on a scooter with a bridal attire. That scene makes anyone to travel all the way to Leh to get the essence of reunion. That one scene could have even made the audience to comeback and watch 3 Idiots again and again.

2. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Spain was still new to Indian audience and this one movie promoted Spain tourism the big way. Now everyone would want to go to Spain for their bachelor's, enjoy Tomatina festival and do a lot of adventure.

3. Bachna Ae Haseeno - This movie had too many places. From Sydney, Venice to Switzerland, lots if observed keenly. Although the story doesn't demand the sense and soul of the audience, the locales of the songs had truly made us imagine us replacing them. 'Khuda Jaane' when we could make a magical trip to those spots but 'Aahista' we will. Not to forget Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge made justice to European attractions better than any recent travel films and that is why there is a permanent cut out of SRK and Kajol on Mt.Titlis, Switzerland.

4. Dil Chahta Hai - The Goa-Mumbai highway was never that thrilling until the title track of Dil Chahta Hai hit the television screens. After the movie's release, everyone had a dream of zooming in convertible cars to the beach city. Sydney, Lonawala were also picturised well in the movie.

5. Jab We Met - The movie based on a story of two strangers in a train was a blockbuster of the year. Bhatinda and Shimla backdrop was very scenic and pleasant in the scenes. This is one Bollywood movie that everybody wouldn't mind watching while travelling.

6. Cocktail - Recent Bollywood flick is also a funny movie that has good bits of Capetown beaches and some rare scenes of London. The Tumhi Ho Bandu song is a cool party song for fun lovers.

7. Barfi - The beauty of Darjeeling was utilised well in the film. It also added freshness to screenplay. The close to heart musical is also nice to watch with lover in car.

8. Robot - south superstar Rajnikanth movie had some rare South American locales like Peru. The songs locales are still fresh in the mind for Rajnikanth and Aishwarya's fans until their next releases.

9. Dhoom 2 - Brazil's Rio De Janeiro was a prime location of the film and almost all the scenes were shot in the capital city. Definitely a good timepass while 'wheel'ing.

10. Singh Is Kinng - Although few movies like Jeans, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham were shot in Egypt, I would prefer the latest. The teri ore song in the movie looked awesome with the gigantic pyramids behind Katrina and Akshay's romance. The pink and black Chiffon sarees could never get the viewer's eyes as much as it did in this African attraction.

Great Books To Read While Traveling

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page" - St Augustine.
Books make great traveling companions! I find it very comforting to read while I am traveling alone by train, bus or by air. A long commute magically becomes short and a droning train journey becomes quite colorful. So here is a list of books that you may find worthy of a good read while traveling. While it wouldn’t be possible to write a universal list of books because of the varied languages, tastes & genres available, I’m making a list of books that I have read & liked and I’m hoping you’d like them too.

Please note though, that the books mentioned here may not have much or anything to do with travel. They are however, books about people- real & fictitious, about psychology, spirituality, life and such. I have found that writings, music and every form of art melts all boundaries set by us humans. It enables us to explore worlds different from ours, transports us to higher planes mentally, excites us physically and finally helps us meet ourselves right where we are.

  1. The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid.
It’s a gripping tale about a very puzzling man called Changez who narrates to a suspicious American stranger about his American dream & love affair and how he was forced to abandon both. It is set in Lahore and written in impeccable English. It is less than a couple of hundred pages but packed with excitement. It very subtly analyses the state of our world today and brings in a stark comparison of life in the East & the West. The story is written in a monologue and the irony with which it ends is simply ineffable.

  1. The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi.
It is the 1st of the Shiva trilogy series by Amish. The story is set in the land of Meluha in 1900 B.C. It claims to use original archeological data borrowed for purpose of fiction. It chronicles the journey of Shiva, a Tibetan tribal who is believed to be the Neelkanth, the savior of the Meluhans and how he joins the Meluhan army to defeat the Chandravanshis & the Nagas.  You will come across familiar names from the Hindu mythology like Ganesha, Sati, Nandi and how they meet Shiva to help him in his endeavour.

  1. The Secret of The Nagas by Amish Tripathi
It is the second book of the Shiva Trilogy. It picks up from where Shiva is trying to save Sati from a Naga attack. He wishes to put an end to the disturbances caused by the Nagas and so travels to Branga where he learns their true secrets & identities. He learns of Sati’s secret past and comes head on with the Nagas in their capital. There is a character in this book called ‘Bappiraj’ whose profile I found very similar to a Bollywood music director!!! Don’t know if anybody noticed! Reveals the humorous side of Amish I guess. On the whole, both the books are a must-read!

  1. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff….and it’s all Small Stuff by Richard Carlson.
It is a very simple book and uses equally simple English. Almost all of us want to lead calm, peaceful, stress-free lives. So, this book talks about how one can stop letting the really tiny little things in life drive you insane. It helps you put things in perspective and is not so preachy like many books of this category are. It’s very thoughtful & encouraging and has titles like “Mind your own business” & “Wherever you go, there you are”. I felt it had stuff to think of while traveling. Maybe introspect even.

  1. Lincoln, The Unknown by Dale Breckenridge Carnegie.
It is a biography of Abraham Lincoln. It is a beautiful book that gives us an insight into the world of a very reserved Lincoln and his journey from being a farm boy to becoming one of the most unforgettable presidents of the United States of America. You will weep with him, you will read with him, you will become president with him and you will be with him when that bullet hits him at theater in the end.

  1. Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahamsa Yogananda.
It is one of my favorites. It fundamentally talks about self-realization and self-mastery with scientific transparency. He narrates his life, his own spiritual journey and his encounters with many evolved masters. For me, it felt too good to believe. I felt like a little girl awestruck by the concept of magic & illusions. But I also felt that much in life is understood within the context of one’s own experiences. Thereby, even belief is questioned today.  It is one of those things that has many explanations attached to it and still remains ineffable.

  1. The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck.
For those of you who first thought this was about travel, am sorry, it is not. It is about a different kind of journey altogether. It was first published in 1978 and perhaps Peck is best known for this book. It is an account of the elements that make for a contented human being, based on his experiences as a psychiatrist and largely as a person. He discusses many of his cases and details about discipline, the nature of love and grace. I found it very revealing & it has helped me understand human behavior & why we are what we are.

So here were just a few books for the list. And I’m not claiming that it has all the elements of a good review. But I am sincerely hoping that many of you out there would consider giving it a read through and that it makes your travel more enjoyable & enlightening. Often times, travel provides many revelations and what better way to stimulate our thoughts than books??

Happy reading! And Happy Journey!!

If Life Is Called A Travel..

For a happy living, one must move on and if the journey of life is called a long travel then one must learn how to make it a memorable one. Every individual will more or less wish for the same but the dreams and ambitions change. If the person is sure about his destination, he is the happiest and blessed.

The travellers in the journey are always hungry to know where they are and what they are. Some get lost in the crowd, some remain lost and some want to be lost. The price to be payed to achieve what one is desperate for is may be in the budget or rather too expensive. The second classers always want to move to the first and the first want to be in the best, the race is on for the entire journey.

The tickets that we buy are the 'good deeds' and one keeps losing or gaining it throughtout the journey. All that matters is whether the traveller has ticket when the collector asks it. Those who have it at the right time can travel all long or else get down forever. Sometimes companions share their ticket with you but that is only until you are worth it.

The youngsters are ready to race in the adventurous journey, the old try to hold their tickets tightly until the end but the middle aged have to battle it out for seats with the old and the young. Life keeps moving in the juggling journey.

There are all kinds of entertainment, there is song, dance and music. Some gifted perform and earn tickets for a good price as they mesmerise the ticket collector. Some gamble with collector but nobody disturbs the driver.

The journey can take you wherever you want at whatever time but doesn't wait for you always. One needs be fit and wit to understand the pace of the journey. Those who have a hint or rather call their life as a long travel are truly gifted as life is that simple.

What Is So Special About India 2012?

Despite India being in the list of population, poverty and corruption, there is something about this country. Lets not get to the history but talk about the present India 2012. When I travelled India, I did see the lack of sanitation and basic amenities but that alone cannot define a nation.

India 2012: What I Saw..

The Travel

Many a times we find videos of people comparing the developed with the developing. They bring up all the negative points, make fun by being dramatic on clips and do what not. But one thing is for sure, India's certain tourist spots can be compared to nothing of the world. These attractions are a proof to the oldest civilisation. The Ajanta, Ellora and Badami caves, the ruins of hampi, the massive gopuras of temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala speak a different culture all together.

The People

At the tourist spots, you may find hungry children but when you request them for a picture, they will always pose with a smile. They may annoy you for pennies but are also ready to help you in every little way.

On my visit to Mysore palace, I observed a funny scene. The autowalas and local guides treated some foreign travellers like celebrities in an intention that they may gain some more money. Where on Earth can you expect such a treatment?..Even if you are ready to pay, you can never wish for such a treatment like in India 2012.

The Food

The idlis, dosas and rotis didn't upset my stomach as much as the burgers, french fries from the Internationally famous restaurant did. Their jal jeeras and lassies are the best than any aerated drink in the world.

One of the flight tickets had warned its passengers travelling to India to prefer only packaged drinking water. My question is, isn't it the same case in every country? Who would prefer the water of the fountains and ponds in the city?

The Clothing

In India, you are blessed if you plan to shop. You can purchase atleast 2 bags more than anywhere in the globe (I, here, refer to the international brands).

If you know English, you can happily travel in India where atleast 50% of the world still strives to get a few words of universally accepted language.

The Beliefs

Their spiritual beliefs aren't strange but the Indian media doesn't wish to take a break from the controversial news, even if the world is ready to know.  The channels are driven with the idea of spreading the virtual India which the new gen isn't aware.

All in all, this was the India I discovered in my expedition but you may have something else to say, do you?

Why Do We Travel?

This entry serves as an extension of thoughts from a previous post by Guru ‘Why Travel Gyaan?’ The question ‘Why do we travel?’ am sure, has entered the minds of many travelers. Am also sure that most of us have some sort of an answer to it. After having read through a few people’s experiences, I came to observe that for most, the answer was more emotional or spiritual while for some others, the aim was purely, to have fun. And then, there were the ones that wanted to endure, to test themselves. Ergo, It is difficult to categorize and quite impossible to come to a single conclusion. So, the question is still open.

Why do I want to Travel?

  1. To Dare Myself
Not in a ‘Man Vs Wild’ sort of way, but in much saner methods. To perhaps ‘go’ behind a bush or snorkel with baby sharks around you, in Langkawi. To trek in the valleys of Kashmir where little stones rolling under your feet threaten to send you sliding down to the bottom or try hard to stay afloat in the sea after getting thrown out of a high-speed water ride (F.Y.I. Don’t know how to swim). When you’re pitted against such circumstances, well out of your comfort zone, you truly understand what you’re made of.

  1. To Experience New Things
Like a cup of ‘qahwah’ or saffron tea as they make in Kashmir. It is not just the tea, but the houseboat, the sunrise, the shikaras et al, which enriches the experience. One cant get that back home in the South of India with instant tea, drunk from a coffee mug & a newspaper in hand. To pet scorpions in Singapore or make eye contact with an elephant on its way to a watering hole in Wayanad, Kerala. Every little thing counts for a big new experience.

  1. To (Re)discover Myself
The spiritual bit I was talking about earlier. I don’t know for sure, if I will ever understand what that means. Like photographs, at times I find myself in good light & in other times, in poor light. But the endeavor to be in the right light is still on.

  1. To Party And Have Fun
Travel is fun!! On New Year’s Eve, North of Goa, one will come across totally bizarre people and get to see one’s self in a completely different way.  Or perhaps white water rafting on the river Cauvery, in Coorg, Karnataka. You will find yourself screaming in different octaves on contact with different grades of rapids. What is more fun is when you have gang of pals screaming with you.

  1. To Be Grateful
for having the opportunities & resources to undertake news journeys. For the ability to enjoy the experiences with fully functioning physical faculties. And finally, to be able to share it with friends & family.

I am yet to see the world. But for the teeny bit I have seen around home, I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned. Who better a teacher, than nature! And what better way to revel, than travel!

Can Journey Be A Bed Of Roses?

There is one travel baggage, which is best when empty, at the beginning of trips...
"PERFECT EXECUTION" of travel plan - This expectation would more or less define how well one can enjoy.

The positives..
What if economy class tickets get upgraded to business class for free!!
What if a very friendly tour guide drives a cab and chauffeurs throughout!!
How about a surprise dinner at a resort on anniversary?

The negatives ..
What if you take a wrong exit!..
Or lost a credit card on the way..
Or even missed a person from the travelling group in transit?

Taken in right spirits, these unexpected and unplanned parts make it exciting and complete.

It is very easy to let one such event to make or break the entire journey, should we...?

Why Travel Gyaan?

For many, travel is spiritual as it makes one realise that there is some power ruling the gigantic mountains, watering the dark forests and taking a good care of animals and birds. The beauty of nature always overrides the pride and artificial behaviour of humans. We, a team of 10, feel that there's ‘travel in mind’ which goes on until the end of breath. Our category ‘Travel Gyaan' (gyaan in hindi means wisdom) will explain travel quotes, stories and great sayings in an attempt to refresh your mind, de-stress and massage your brains more.
