Tokyo Bay Aqua - Line, Japan

An Engineering marvel - "Trans- Tokyo Bay Highway" is the other name for Tokyo Bay Aqua - Line. This is the combination of bridge and tunnel which connects the cities Kawasaki and Chiba prefectures.

The fourth longest underwater tunnel in the world. The length of the highway is 14 km which includes 4.4 km bridge and 9.6 km tunnel underneath the bay.

Umihataro, an artificial island is built at the bride-tunnel crossover point consisting a parking lot, restaurants, shops and amusement facilities.
Since Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line reduces the drive between the most important industrial regions(Kanagawa and Chiba) from almost 90 to 15 minutes. It avoids the busy roads of Japan so the toll rates are high.

  1. How much would be the toll compared to alternative routes?
Has there been traffic jams even on this?
